Meet Joao, a special man from Brazil who enjoys knitting. What’s unique about his knitting is that he creates dolls, but not just any dolls – he makes vitiligo dolls.
Joao himself has vitiligo, a skin condition that causes white spots to appear on the body. While it doesn’t affect one’s health, it can lead to social and emotional challenges, especially when the visible parts of the body, like the face, are affected.
Joao has been dealing with vitiligo for 30 years, facing both social and personal struggles. To make a positive impact on kids facing the same challenges, he decided to use his free time to knit dolls.
Starting with a doll for his granddaughter, Joao and his wife turned this into a hobby. Now, he not only creates unique dolls but also knits toys for disabled children to help them feel confident and included in society.
